DASH diet helps against kidney stones
A new study conducted on 3426 respondents showed that the DASH diet, which is used for lowering high blood pressure (hypertension) can also help reduce the risk of developing kidney stones.
In fact analysis of 24 hour urine samples showed that regardless of the same amount of fluid intake, to the people who applied the DASH diet it produced a greater quantity of urine than people who did not apply the DASH diet, which is partly due to high water content in food from the DASH diet.
It also showed that the urine of people on the DASH diet contained higher concentrations of citrate, which are an important inhibitor of developing kidney stones containing calcium.
The results of this study indicate that two components of DASH diet – dairy products with low fat and / or fruits and vegetables can help combat kidney stones.
DASH diet contains large amounts of fruits and vegetables, nuts, legumes, grains and dairy products with reduced fat and slightly sweetened drinks, red meat and processed meat.
Stones in the renal pelvis may be asymptomatic or may cause hematuriju, and obstruction can occur at any point. The main symptom of nephrolithiasis is a strong bitter pain that begins in the lumbar boxes of ureteral smooth muscle contraction and spread to the groin. Pain may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting and signs of infection.
